Coaches Raise $500 for Glastonbury 325 Festival

To Be A Kid Again!!!

Glastonbury Little League conducted a “Coaches Game” at Ross Field on Friday, September 14. GLL coaches gathered to play and raise funds to support Glastonbury’s 325th birthday celebration festival. A total fo $500 was raised from passing the hat, concession sales and donations  from corporate sponsors.

The game was played with an incrediball(Tee Ball) . Nevertheless, it featured both mammoth homers and feeble popups and grounders. Surprisingly good speed was demonstrated on the basepath and in the outfield. It was a tight game in the early innings with the Red and Blue team tied after two. Red outlasted Blue 15-8, nobody got hurt.

The game highlighted the league coaches' rich personal baseball experience and history. On the field were several coaches who had professional Minors AA experience, one coach having been a member of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox team. Several players had played in the historic Cape Cod League. There were several former college players, American Legion players and a Massachusetts All Star player. Karen Costes, former GLL player and Ross Award recipient and currently GHS Varsity Softball Coach took the mound for two innings to the delight of her team that was in presence at the game.

“These coaches represent the high caliber of volunteer adults who serve as coaches in our program. We are most fortunate to have such talented and caring people teaching the game of baseball to our Glastonbury kids. We believe we have the best coaching staff around.” commented GLL President, Don Longtin. He added, “it was fun seeing them become kids again for a couple of hours”.
